HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Are you willing to give up your time for a good cause?

There are many ways to get involved and make a difference to the lives of these children. Come and visit for an afternoon or stay and teach for up to a month.

To be eligible to stay at the volunteer house you must give your afternoons to teaching at the orphanage between 3pm and 6pm. Classes are broken into two groups. Under 12’s and over 12’s. Detailed lesson plans are to be submitted as an indication of what and how you plan to teach.

eg - English classes (greetings, numbers and colours, etc)
eg - Computer (opening, writing and saving a document)
eg - Sport and games (soccer, musical chairs)
eg - Music and Dance (nursury rhymes and movement)
eg - Cooking (all food expenses must be covered by you but we can take you to the bulk buy discount store)

The orphanage is located in Denpasar and is roughly a 30 minute drive from the volunteer house in Kerobokan. Be prepared to hire a bike or car as taxis to and from can get expensive. You are welcome to spend as much time at the orphanage as you like and in your mornings we suggest you surf the local waves, go shopping or taste the local dishes. Be warned though....... the kids can steal your heart away and you might just find yourself forgetting about all other activities and practically living at the orphanage!!!

If you are short on time, we offer an “afternoon visit” program. One of the staff can can join you on a trip to “Macro” where you can purchase foods such as fruit and veg, chicken and meat, egg and cheese, all foods that the kids dont get enough of and are desperate need of. Macro is a bulk buy discount store so even $50 goes a long way!!!! These types of visits are what make the orphanage work at meal time and are greatly appreciated. Spend the afternoon with the kids after shopping and let them show you around. You may even meet a child you would like to sponsor for their school costs to assist with their education.

What we need

Often children experience learning difficulties due to bad eyesight or hearing which can lead to headaches and migraines. We are currently calling out to any optometrists, hearing specialists and any other specialists who would be interested in coming to assess the children.
We also understand that computer skills coupled with good english is the key to employment for local indonesians so volunteers who can teach computer program skills are in high demand.

If this sounds like something for you...

Please contact bonnie@balivolunteerhouse.com.au for all other information and available times of the year that you can volunteer & tell us your area of expertise you would like to teach.

Note: All volunteers must plan and put together their own educational programs/lessons and submit them for pre approval to bonnie@balivolunteerhouse.com.au Lessons/programs will run everyday after school between study and tea time and should run for approx 2 hours. (1 hour for the under 12’s and the second hour for the under 19’s/over 12’s)
